Is this the BEST that an ‘Accomplished’ journalist can do?
An accomplished journalist/author like Ms. Pickett should be able to do better than this bore of a ‘Self-Help’ book for the unemployed and unemployable. ‘Landing the Job You Want’ is nothing more than 200+ pages of ‘Blah, Blah, Blah’ (read: BORING) tips for those who are too lazy to get off their collective tushes and make something of themselves.
One would expect that a writer with Ms. Pickett’s credentials should have the talent to at least speak intelligently to her audience, but then again, the author’s M.O. is one of putting herself up on a pedastal, above all others, while boring her readers with lines and lines and pages upon pages of useless information that most could care less to read.
Other reviewers have concurred. Perhaps Ms. Pickett should spend more time concentrating on making her readers happy and less time feeding her own ego. A wise man once said ‘Before you speak, my child, think about this: Does what you have to say really interest anyone other than yourself? If so, then speak your mind. If not, remain silent and more people will respect you.’
Ms. Picket should take heed.

I would highly recommend this book for job interviewing preparation. Also recommended for job interview preparation are the job interview guides published by Vault.com, including the Vault Guide to the Case Interview and the Vault Guide to Finance Interviews. Good luck!

If you are looking for a job, or promotion and the corporation will be using the Targeted Selection method this is the book you must read! Forget those silly answers like “I am a people person” This book will help you explain why you should land the job!

I have pulled this book off my shelf many times over the last 9 years to aid friends and family during their stalled job searches. It offers basic helpful advise on how to stand out from other candidates during the interview process. A candidate cannot possibly know whether a company uses Targeted Selection but that is beside the point. Giving behavioral answers to non- behavioral questions asked by interviewers really helps a candidate stand out! Sure it’s a tad simplistic , but that is what makes this workbook’s advise so easy to understand and follow. The pre-interview prep is priceless.
Not only did this book help me change shift my career to a new industry. it has successfully aided several of my friends and at least one family member.

This book was Fantastic! It gave me great examples, and allowed me to practice with real work oriented questions. This allowed me to prepare the upcoming promotional opportunity within my company. I feel that I am now relaxed and fully prepared to do the best that I can. I have and would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in seriously getting promoted. It will work, you just have to do the work and read the book. It’s that Easy.
